Gennai Pen SL01 is officially live on Kickstarter. Created through the collaboration between TACTICALGEEK × Hidetoshi Nakayama, the SL01 is a compact mechanical EDC ballpoint pen designed around tactile interaction, precision machining, and everyday use.
A Pen Built Around Mechanical Interaction
The SL01 uses a distinctive Telegraph Key–style mechanism.
Press the top button to extend the refill and start writing. To retract it, press the separate Telegraph Key-inspired lever.
Once the refill is retracted, the lever can still be pressed repeatedly, adding a tactile, fidget-like mechanical interaction to the pen.
The mechanical pocket clip follows the same idea — press to open, release to secure it back in place.
Together, these elements turn simple everyday actions into part of the SL01 experience.
Compact, Solid, and Made for Daily Use
The SL01 is precision CNC-machined from stainless steel, giving it a compact but substantial feel.
It measures approximately 96 mm long and weighs around 63 g.
Each pen comes with a SCHMIDT P900M refill and is designed to accept standard G2-size refills, making it practical for long-term everyday writing.
From Mechanical Design to Hand-Engraved Art
For this Kickstarter campaign, we are also introducing special SL01 Artist Engraved Editions.
Built on the original SL01 mechanical platform, these versions preserve the full functionality of the pen while transforming its metal surfaces into a canvas for hand engraving.
Among them is a special edition created by engraving artist Xunmu.
Detailed hand engraving extends across the body and mechanical sections, combined with 24K gold inlay to create depth and contrast over the darker engraved surfaces.
Rather than treating the mechanical components as separate functional parts, the engraving follows and incorporates them into the artwork itself.
Compared with the cleaner industrial character of the standard SL01, the engraved editions take the design in a more artistic and collectible direction — while remaining fully functional writing instruments.
Engraved Editions Are Strictly Limited
The engraved versions are available in limited quantities only.
Once sold out, they will no longer be available.
For collectors and enthusiasts of hand engraving, mechanical design, and distinctive writing instruments, these editions represent one of the most special parts of the SL01 campaign.
